Cookies From the Golden Arches

I've already written about the trips that my mom and I took to Musck_owgee (spelled incorrectly on purpose) so I won't take the time to offer the entire backstory again. Suffice to say that one of my favorite parts of those "Mom and me" trips was getting to go to McDonald's because we didn't yet have one in our city. For years, I had been seeing the commercials on television and those made McDonald's look like so much fun. Back then, anything that was on television was deemed special so I wanted to go to McDonald's in the worst way. My mom, being the precious sweetheart that she has always been, made sure that we made a dinner stop at McDonald's in Musck_owgee every single time we went there. I remember that I also always wanted to get a box of McDonaldland cookies to take home as a sort of souvenier. (I know that probably sounds silly since going to McDonald's is something that virtually every child in America can do on any given day now but again, at that time, only the bigger cities had those restaurants so we small town kids considered McDonald's the holy grail of family dining. Clearly, the corporation's marketing strategies worked brilliantly on all of us. lol) So you can imagine how happy and touched I was when my mom insisted that I get not just one box, but several boxes of the cookies so that I could savor my McDonald's experience longer than a single day. Again, that's probably no big deal to you but it was to me. My mom was in the process of a painful divorce and she was trying to financially support me all on her own so the new skateboard, the trips to McDonald's, the extra cookies - these were big, big things to me. Things that I will never forget.

I don't have any idea why it is that God gave the best mom in the history of the world to an insignificant nobody like me but He did. He absolutely, positively, beyond a shadow of a doubt did. Bernie and I won the mom lottery. If I've already said that before here, it's o.k. It bears repeating.
