Till The DatSun Sets
For a time, my dad worked for the Datsun corporation back in the 60's. Because of that, he drove a brand new, bright red, four-door Datsun like this. Looking at it now, I realize it was a pretty goofy little car but the tiny car thing was new to us at that time so we all thought it was a lot of fun. We had the best of both worlds because we had this little compact car and then, we also had a luxury Buick convertible. They were both new and nice and I liked each of them for different reasons. But I especially loved riding around in the Datsun though because it had four doors and it was little like me. As a four-year old, I thought having my very own door and window to manage was a very big deal. lol I could also sit behind the wheel of the Datsun and feel as though I was big enough to drive it. I wasn't, of course. My feet didn't reach the floor but the seat and steering wheel fit me much better than the ones in the Buick so I loved to get in it and pretend I was driving.
We only kept our Datsun for about a year before my dad traded for something bigger. He really wasn't a big fan of tiny cars. It's one of a handful of cars I still see in my mind, setting out in front of our old house every time I venture over to M****** Avenue to revisit the girl I used to be.
The girl I'll always be.
