Taps On Our Shoes
I never took dance lessons. Singing, playing instruments, and playing Girl's Club basketball and softball - those were my things. But my friends and I used to love to nail taps to the bottom of our shoes so that we would make clicking sounds when we walked down the school hallways. Of course, once you put them on, your loafers were pretty much ruined. You couldn't take them off without leaving your shoes damaged. My mom was not a big fan of this practice because of that. Now that I'm a mom, I don't blame her at all!
*random related memory: One day, when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade, my mom, dad and I makde a spontaneous trip down to Huge. I didn't even know we were going to take the trip. My parents showed up at school during lunch time and told me they were there to pick me up and take me with them. To this day, I don't know what prompted that mid-week trip but whatever the reason, it yielded a lot of fun for my cousins and me. In between playing our little heads off, we also went shopping at the local dime store with our moms, where I bought a set of taps. My mom didn't want to mess with putting them onto my shoes while we were there visiting (not that I blame her for that, either, lol) so my Aunt Sissy volunteered to do it for me while she and my mom visited. I was so happy and excited. I drove everyone crazy for the rest of the night, tapping my shoes on every hard floor surface I could find. lol
