Pediatricians
Dr. E.H. Shuller
Dr. Thurman Shuller
If you grew up in our city, then you saw one of the Shuller brothers at some point because they were the main doctors here. E.H. was not actually a pediatrician but when his brother, Thurman, was booked and you needed to see a doc right away, he would see kids. I went to both Shullers when I was little. They are pretty much the only physicians I saw at all until I was late into my teens. Back then, you could get in to see a doc the same day you called, even if you called late in the afternoon most of the time. I remember running a temp while out grocery shopping at about 4:00 in the afternoon one day. My mom called and they took me right in which was something they did regularly for everyone. And they would see people, regardless of whether or not they had the money to pay. Back then, doctors adhered to the hypocratic oath and treated people because they cared about them, not because they wanted social status, a Beemer, and a huge showplace house. There was no sense of entitlement with the old school doctors. Getting rich was never a concern. They just wanted to contribute the gifts God had given them to keep everyone healthy. Those were definitely the days.
Dr.'s Shuller, you have my eternal gratitude. Today's generation of physicians could learn an awful lot from the two of you.
