Klick Klacks

Klick Klacks. Got them for my birthday in 4th grade. $1.29 per pair. ER doctor, cast, and icebag sold separately. LOL

My mom bought a pair of these for me for my 4th grade birthday. This was another toy that I found out about at school. Back then, we were allowed to take toys to school as long as we only got them out at recess so I learned about some cool toys from friends on the playground. The kid who had these didn't know where his or her (can't remember who it was) mom had gotten them so as with the Skip-It, I was forced to hunt for them. Or at least, that's how it would have been if not for an unbelievable set of circumstances.

The very day I saw these on the playground, my mom picked me up from school. We didn't go straight home because she had some errands to run downtown so all the way there, I chattered about the new toy I had seen at school. I told her that we just had to find them because I wanted them for my birthday which was only a few days away.

And here's where it gets crazy good.

Usually my mom liked to drive down Choctaw from west to east because that enabled her to park on her preferred side of the street. We almost NEVER parked on the opposite side of the street because the sun, rain, and wind was more harsh on that side. Even if my mom needed to visit a store that sat on that side, we would usually park on the side she preferred and then walk across the street to get to our shopping destination. However, on this day, my mom parked on the other side of the street. As she pulled into the parking spot, I noticed that a street vendor had set up a table outside of Brown's Shoe Store which was directly in front of where we were parking. As I moved forward for a closer look, I could barely believe my eyes. The street vendor was selling the very toy that I had chattered all the way to town about!!!! (bad grammar, I know but it just doesn't sound normal when I word it grammatically correct) I just couldn't believe it! I exclaimed my excitement and surprise so loudly that I scared my poor mom as she was completing her parking maneuver. LOL She tried to feign disinterest and told me to stay in the car. She promised that she would LOOK at them but assured me that we weren't going to buy any that day. I told her to please see if they had blue but assured her that I would take ANY color rather than none. I watched her like a hawk so I don't know how she pulled the fast one that she did but she somehow managed to purchase a blue pair of klick klacks without me knowing. I was so upset because I was afraid the street vendor would disappear before my mom ever had a chance to get back to town to get some of them for my birthday. I was just heartbroken and couldn't understand why, when my birthday was so near, my mom wouldn't just go ahead and let me get them. LOL

When my birthday arrived a few days later and I unwrapped them, I was surprised and relieved to say the least. That Ginger Bear has always been a crafty, crafty little mommy. : )
