Every kid in the Channel 8 viewing around knew and loved Don Woods and his cartoon buddy, Gusty. Gusty was the character that Don, our weatherman, drew and gave away each night at 6 & 10 at the end of his weather forecast. Everyone loved and wanted a Gusty. Everyone sent in a postcard request and twice a day, Don would draw a name out of the hopper and give that day's Gusty away. It was a very big deal back then. Not only did you get a Gusty, but Don also announced your name on the air, etc. LOL Today, that doesn't sound like such a big deal, I'm sure, but back then, to us kids, it was a VERY big deal. I used to sit in front of the television every single night hoping like crazy that Don would draw my name but alas, he never did. lolYears later, while living in Tulsa, Don did a week-long guest stint on Channel 8 for old time's sake so I wrote to him, told him my whole funny sad story, and told him I would STILL very much like to have a Gusty. (He gets those sort of requests all of the time so it's not as weird as it sounds, - I promise. LOL) He drew a Gusty just for me, autographed it and sent it along with a nice letter. When I get a chance, I'll get it out of storage and scan it because I know you're all going to be waiting on pins and needles to see it. LOLOL
