Frosty Mug of A&W Root Beer
My favorite drink the world is fresh ice water. Hands down, that is my favorite. BUT, after that, comes A&W Root Beer fresh from the tap served in the original frosty mugs. We're talking nectar of the gods, here. I've been drinking A&W Root Beer all of my life. A&W restaurants took the whole "family restaurant" theme to unprecedented lengths and I loved that about them. Their drinks and their burgers were sized and named for all members of the family. So they had baby mugs of root beer, (which were the most adorable things in the world!) children's sized mugs, teen sized mugs and parent-sized mugs. No matter what size mug you got, it was frosty and so tasty that your mouth could barely stand it. Sadly we don't have a place that serves frosty mugs of Root Beer anymore around here. There is an A&W of sorts and they do at least serve the Root Beer from the tap but they don't bother with the frosty mugs and that's an important part of the taste experience. I miss it so much!
*Burgers: I'm still searching for pics of those cool foil wrappers in which all of the A&W burgers used to be served. For the longest time I collected them. I didn't have a single use for them, I just really liked them. lol
My favorite burger was the Super Papa Cheeseburger. I ate mine with cheese, mayo, and bacon. Yum. High in calories but the time during which I ate them most often was during jr. high and I was so active in basketball, bike riding, skateboarding, swimming, etc. that I could get away with it. I never gave it a thought. How I wish I could do that now! LOL More than anything, I wish I could go back and spend one of those lazy afternoons sitting at the A&W with my sweet mama the way we did almost every day back then because it was just she and I living at home most of the time. Once Dad flipped out and Bernie got married, it was always my sweet mama and me on our own. She's always been my best friend in the world and I treasure every minute I get with her. There's no other mom in the world like mine and Bernie's mama. She's the standard to which all other mothers attempt but fail to achieve.
