Drive-In Speakers
We didn't go to the drive-in very often which was o.k. with me. The first time or two that I went, it was a novelty sort of thing so I enjoyed it for the most part but once the new wore off, I got over it pretty quickly. I liked watching the movie on the large screen and I liked the idea of being in the car with my family and being able to talk as much as we wanted, etc. Eating the refreshments in the car was fun, too but none of that was enough to make up for the sweltering heat that I had to endure. I hate heat and I don't like to sweat so to me, drive-ins were/are unbearably uncomfortable.
M******** had three different drive-ins during the time that I was growing up but if my memory is correct, I believe all but one had gone out of business by the time I graduated high school. The main drive-in, which was part of the main Cinema in town remained open until just a few years ago.
Some of the movies I remember seeing at the drive-in:
Patton
Where the Red Fern Grows (went to see that with the Siscos and we watched from on top of their station wagon, which was kind of fun)
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
There were more but I'm not sure I'll ever remember what they were.
