Christmas Shopping In Granny's Attic
I bought one of these cool (or so we kids thought at the time, lol) 7-Up flickering lights as a Christmas gift for my brother one year. I was in the 6th grade at the time. A brand new mini mall had just opened downtown and everyone, especially the city's youth, was super excited about having a new, trendy place to shop. One of the first stores to open in the mini mall was a place called "Granny's Attic". It immediately became the official hip teen hangout because GA carried all of the goofy, hippy-esque novelty items that pop culture had to offer at that time. One of the first things to catch my eye was this light, which I thought to be quite cool. In fact, I wanted it for myself but for reasons still unclear to me, I eventually decided, in a rare moment of sibling sentimentality, to buy it for my brother, instead. He was older than I and he already had an early 70's hippy wannabe thing going on in his room so I knew that this light would fit right into his disturbingly wacky decor. So I got it for him and he either loved it or did a terrific job of pretending that he liked it. Either way, I enjoyed stepping out of the little sister box and surprising my big brother with something fun for Christmas. I hope to surprise him with something much cooler one of these days when I am able to do so.
*after we were grown, Bernie suprised me one year during my Elvis phase with two collector sets of specially made Elvis 45's. Each vinyl record was gold colored and see through. They were awesome!!!! I still have them today. I've never allowed them to be played because I want them to remain in mint condition. Thanks, Bernie. I still love that gift!
