When I was growing up, most people used the big bulbs on their Christmas trees because they were really beautiful and gave off a lot of color. Small lights were just starting to make an appearance I guess (I'm not a Christmas light historian so I can't say for sure, lol) because I don't remember seeing them used or seeing them for sale very much. We had one string, as did a few of our friends. This is how they looked back then. Instead of just having the lights by themselves, they were encased in a plastic flower.
