CB Radios
When my dad came off the road after years of working for RCA/Whirlpool, he worked for a few years in law enforcement so he always had a cb radio in his police vehicle. I thought it was a huge deal when he would let me radio in to the office and use official call signs to let them know that he was home for the evening or whatever. Thought I was totally the shizz. LOL
My best friend's brother also had a cb in his bedroom so she and I would talk to one another often. I have no idea why we thought that was such a big deal since we had telephones in our houses, lol, but I guess we just never stopped to think about the fact that unless they were being used in a car, they were actually a step backwards in terms of communication technology. Phones worked far better and didn't require a car battery. Being able to talk to Reena while driving around in my dad's car though, well...that was just amazing!
My call sign was "Meadowlark" because I was obsessed with basketball and Meadowlark Lemon was my favorite Harlem Globetrotter. You had to have a "username" for communicating on cd radios just like you have to usernames for various types of communication today. I guess cb radios were the MySpace or Facebook of the 70's. LOL
