Carnival Rides and Carousels

I LOVED the carnival when I was a little girl. On the days when my mom would tell me we were going to be going to one later that evening, I would be so excited that I couldn't even eat. They seemed HUGE to me back then, though I now know they really weren't. All of those bright neon lights and moving rides evoked GREAT excitement within me. It might as well have been DisneyWorld to me. I didn't know any different and it was a wonderful, magical, amazing place to me. I loved everything about carnivals but by far, my favorite rides were the boats, motorcycles, and carousel. I tried and tried to find a pic of the exact ones I used to ride every year but had no luck so these shots will have to do. I didn't just ride any old motorcycle or boat. I had to have the sparkly blue ones. (Remember how they were painted with that glorious sparkly paint that just made them shimmer under the lights? LOVED that!) If necessary, I would let other people go in front of me and would wait until the next go round in order to ensure that I got the coveted blue vehicles. I would scope them out the minute I stepped onto the fairgrounds and those were always the first things I rode.

As for the carousel, there never was a predominantly blue horse but I would always at least try to find one that had pink, blue, and purple on it because those were the prettiest horses to me.

Years later, when Prince Kit and I introduced our firstborn child to the carousel in Tulsa, she chose, without any prompting from either of us, the horse named "Arabella" because Arabella was a beautiful white horse with pink, blue, and purple trim. And for the next 8 years or so, that is the only horse she would ride. Fortunately Princess Tay Tay wasn't quite as picky. She just liked riding next to her big sister so she would take any horse that was right beside, in front of, or behind Arabella. I don't know what we would have done if both had insisted on that one horse. I guess I would have ridden twice so that each of them could have a turn on her. Because, you know, those sort of things are very important to little girls and I speak fluent little girl since, on the inside, I'm still one myself.

Come to think of it, that riding twice "for the kids, lol" idea doesn't sound half bad.
