Beatles Sunglasses

The Beatles made these square little granny glasses very, very popular in the 60's. For no reason other than fortunate timing, my brother managed to get one of the only pairs that was made available in our town. This city has never been one wherein all of the latest, hottest items could be found. Usually we have to travel to Tulsa or Muskogee to find the special things we want so I'm sure that whatever store got some of these glasses in probably only ordered a few pair and probably didn't reorder when they ran out. Most of the people who owned retail stores in our town back then (and now, for that matter) were very out of touch with pop culture so they would not have had a clue that young people were clamoring for these glasses.

So Bernie was blessed to get his hot little hands on a pair of these and all of his neighborhood/school friends were green with envy because they were hot, hot, hot and everybody wanted them. I was just a preschooler and I was crazy about them, too, but then, you've already read about my childhood obsession with glasses! lol I still love them today and if I could find some in which I could put my real lenses, I would jump at the chance to get them. They wouldn't look good on me, you understand, but that isn't the point. As I always say, the heart wants what the heart wants. Rhyme or reason doesn't even factor into the equation. lol

One day, not long after my brother bought his granny sunglasses, they mysteriously disappeared. Coincidentally, one of his very best childhood friends miraculously acquired a pair although there were none available in the whole town. Hmmmm. Yeah. If memory serves me correctly, that friendship ended shortly after that. Friends are one thing but a boy's Beatles sunglasses are another thing entirely.  LOL
