Always the Gift of Choice

My mom got a pair of these for me for graduation from high school. (And several more things) The only different was that mine had a much lighter blue swoosh. This was a very, very popular preppy Nike court shoe at that time. I loved them and to this day, they're still one of my all-time favorites. The rubber toe tip reminded me of the sneakers I used to wear when I was a toddler and I really wanted to feel young again at graduation time. My world was changing drastically, and forever, and although I was proud to have reached my goals, I was also very scared and very sad about leaving my childhood behind. Leaving my sweet mama to go away to college was one of the absolute hardest things I have ever had to do in my entire life. At that time, it was THE hardest thing I'd ever had to do. The future always comes a little (or a lot) before you're ready to give up the present.

I'm hoping that Nike will re-release this gem. I would LOVE to have a fresh, new pair. Mine eventually got so dirty that the washing machine couldn't clean them. I am the most careful shoe wearer in the world. I go to great lengths to avoid walking in, on, or near anything that could mar my beautiful shoes but even I couldn't keep this pair completely clean. They were machine washable which helped but the fabric was such that ANY smudge bonded to it and refused to come all the way out. Just a day or so after I got mine, Karen Mc accidentally stepped on mine while we were down at Chaddick Park at the Concert Choir party. I love Karen. She was one of my closest friends but I seriously almost lost it when she marked up my brand new, show white shoe. I still think of that every time I think about these shoes.  LOL So Karen, if Nike re-releases these and I manage to get a pair, I'm giving you fair warning to steer clear of me. I let you live the first time you got my shoes dirty. To let it go a second time would require super human strength I simply no longer possess.  LOL

Me trying on my cap and gown over at Bernie's house the day I got it. I was so proud of my graduation regalia.
