Aluminum Christmas Trees
We didn't have an aluminum tree. Well, we had a small one but it was just the kind that was meant to be used decoratively on a table or shelf. Our main tree, however, never was never one of these silver ones. I liked seeing them here and there but I never wanted my parents to get one for our house. I loved the real tree and couldn't imagine Christmas without it. When I was in high school, my allergies and asthma dictated that we switch from a real one to a fake one but we still didn't go with the silver tree. We stuck with a nice, green one. If you had a silver one, don't be offended by the fact that I didn't want one. I liked them. I just didn't ever like them nearly as much as I liked traditional trees. They always remind me of my childhood though because so many stores and people temporarily switched over to them back when they first came out.
Random Related Memory: Sitting in the Kirby's living room by myself listening to Christmas music play on their stereo while gazing at their aluminum tree for almost a whole evening. They were hosting a Christmas party and all of the adults had gravitated into the kitchen/beauty shop area. I was the only kid to attend that night. (Yeah mom and dad for not leaving me with a sitter, which I hated!) but I didn't mind at all because I was perfectly content to sit there by the stereo and tree dreaming of all that I hoped Santa would be bringing me that year.
